11+ Tuition
What is the 11+ Exam?
The 11+ Exam is a selective entrance exam taken by Year 6 students, typically aged 10–11, to gain entry into grammar schools and selective secondary schools across the UK.
The 11+ Exams are comprised of two mains subjects - English and Maths.
The 11+ English exam is broadly divided into two key areas:
Reading Comprehension
The Reading Comprehension section presents students with one or more passages of text — fiction, non-fiction, or poetry — and asks them to answer a range of questions testing how well they have understood and can analyse what they have read.
SPAG — Spelling, Punctuation & Grammar
The SPAG section tests a student's technical understanding of how the English language works, testing the ability to:
-
Apply common spelling rules and patterns
-
Understand the use of different punctuation
-
Identify nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, pronouns, prepositions, conjunctions and determiners
The Maths component tests two core areas:
The Arithmetic section tests a student's ability to perform accurate, confident calculations across a wide range of fundamental maths topics, such as:
-
Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
-
Fractions, decimals and percentages
-
Long multiplication and long division, and more.
The Reasoning section tests a student's ability to apply mathematical thinking to solve worded and logical reasoning problems, like:
-
Data interpretation — tables, charts and graphs
-
Number sequences and patterns
-
Money and real-world problem solving
Both sections require not just knowledge, but speed, accuracy and exam technique — all of which are developed through our structured online 11+ Maths programme.
